400 schools don’t want Navratri vacation
At least 400 self-financed and 198 grant-in-aid schools have approached education department of the state government requesting that it reconsider the decision to observe vacation during Navratri.
The schools demanded that Navratri vacation be cancelled and Diwali vacation not be shortened.
After four days of confusion and protests, Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama on Tuesday clarified that the 7-day Navratri vacation would be from October 10 to 17 instead of October 15-21announced earlier by Minister of State for Education Vibhavari Dave. The decision would not be applicable to schools affiliated to boards other than the Gujarat education board.

Justifying the decision, Chudasama said, “The decision to grant Navratri vacation was taken after considering a report that the nine-day festival registered low presence in schools and colleges, and popular sentiment. The vacation won’t affect education. In fact, we are overwhelmed with messages from various quarters welcoming our decision.”
Chudasama also clarified that the decision will be applicable to Gujarat board grant-in-aid and private schools including primary, secondary and higher secondary sections besi
