 UN World Water Development Report 2022 

 

The UN World Water Development Report 2022 named “ Groundwater- making the unnoticeable visible ” was launched on March 21, 2022, just one day before World Water Day. The report was launched at the opening form of the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar, Senegal. 


UN World Water Development Report 2022 7 crucial Points 

 

1. The report states that groundwater, which accounts for 99 percent of all liquid freshwater, has the implicit to give societies with tremendous social, profitable and environmental benefits and openings. 


2. The groundwater formerly provides nearly half of the total water used for domestic purposes including drinking water. The water resource has however been misruled, underrated and abused. 

 

3. The report describes groundwater to be central to the fight against poverty and achieving food and water security and indeed the creation of jobs and socio- profitable development. 


4. The report notes that the present dependence on groundwater will only increase due to adding water demand by all sectors and adding dislocation in downfall patterns. 

 

5. The report further highlights the openings and challenges associated with the operation of groundwater across the world. 


6. It also aims to establish a clear understanding regarding the part of groundwater in diurnal life and openings for optimizing its use to insure the long- term sustainability of the water resource. 

 

7. The report states that it all starts with making the unnoticeable visible and the action would bear strong and combined sweats to manage and use it sustainably. 


The findings of the report will be used to make advice to the policymakers. 

 

World Water Day History 


The idea to begin World Water Day goes back to 1992 when the UN Conference on Environment and Development took place in Rio de Janeiro. 

 

The same time, the UN General Assembly espoused a resolution stating that March 22nd will be observed as World Water Day every time from 1993.
